The Fairfax Bar Association is a premier legal resource for those in the legal professional and for those in Northern Virginia. The FBA and its members work to improve the legal profession, the community in which we live, and the administration of justice in society.
- Update: The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 9 due to inclement weather. The FBA office will also be closed. For information on weather-related closings, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov.
- Special Meeting: Pursuant to the Fairfax Bar Association Bylaws, Article VI (5) and Article IV (3), the FBA President hereby calls a Special Meeting of the membership to fill the position for Vice-President. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Wine House in Fairfax, VA. Full details can be found on this flyer.
- General District Judicial Screening: Voting for the anticipated vacancy(ies) in the Fairfax General District Court closed January 21. Results can be found on this link.
- Upcoming Event: The Colors of Justice program will be held on March 6, 2010 at the Albert V. Bryan, U.S. Courthouse in Alexandria to celebrate diversity in the field of law. This program is geared towards students who may be thinking about going into law. For more information, view this flyer. An essay contest will also be held. To view those instructions, go here.
- A Special Project: The Paralegal Section will once again be collecting donations for the Valentine's Day Project, which will benefit the Fairfax Girls' and Boys' Probation Houses. View this flyer for full details on how to donate to this worthy cause.
- Wanted: Volunteer attorneys are needed for the following programs: Model Judiciary Program, the Devonshire Program, and the Court Tour Program. Information and links to these programs can be found here.

- Congrats! Winners of the 2009 Pro Bono Awards and James Keith Public Service Award were announced at the Annual State of the Judiciary Luncheon. Pictures from that event can be seen here.
- Circuit Court Voucher Submission Procedures: This policy pertains to the submission of vouchers and payment requests to the Supreme Court, Department of Fiscal Services. The full policy can be found here.
- GDC Updates: The Traffic Division of the Fairfax General District Court would like to inform agencies of its policy when the GDC closes unexpectedly, due to any reason, but in particular, due to inclement weather. The full memo is found here.

- Notice: New Procedures of the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (Effective November 12, 2009) can be found here.
- New Informational Video: Learn how the J&DR will utilize a new database to track court-appointed attorney guardian ad litem time sheets/vouchers/invoices. The video can be viewed here (total running time - 26:39).
- Circuit Court Policy: It is the policy of the Circuit Court that if a plea set for a date certain does not go forward on that date for any reason, any subsequent plea in the case must come before the Judge originally scheduled to hear the plea, unless the Court in its discretion determines otherwise. Where a plea is continued to a later date, the Judge originally scheduled to hear the plea should place it on the docket for that Judge to hear on a date and time determined by that Judge. However, where a plea agreement is rejected by the Court, subsequent proceedings will be heard by another Judge.
- Memo: The Circuit Court has published its 2010 Master Calendar, the GDC published its 2010 schedule, and the J&DR published its revised 2009 calendar and its 2010 calendar.
- Announcement: Judge Michael P. McWeeny and Judge Stanley P. Klein have announced their retirements. Judge McWeeny will retire effective December 31 and Judge Klein will retire effective March 31. This will create three vacancies including one left by Judge Gaylord Finch Jr. who already announced his retirement will be effective December 31.
