State of the Judiciary 2013
The Annual State of the Judiciary was held on December 12, 2013 at the Country Club of Fairfax. Keynote speakers included Honorable Dennis J. Smith, Chief Judge, Fairfax Circuit Court, Honorable Donald P. McDonough, Chief Judge, Fairfax General District Court, and Honorable Glenn L. Clayton, II, Chief Judge, Fairfax Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. The program also included presentations of the following awards: James Keith Public Service Award to K. Leigh Taylor, Esq.; Pro Bono Attorney of the Year to Sudeb Basu, Esq.; Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year to Morrison & Foerster LLP; and Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year to Renier Jessel, Fairfax General District Court.
Fall Golf Tournament 2013
The FBA hosted the Annual Fall Golf Tournament on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Old Hickory Golf Club. The format was Captain's Choice Scramble and the day included a boxed lunch, dinner buffet, and prizes.
The FBA packed their bags and headed north to pass the International Boundary at this year’s convention in Montréal, Canada on October 3-6, 2013. Special thanks Hon. Glenn L. Clayton, II, Chief Judge, Hon. Penney S. Azcarate, Hon. Lisa A. Mayne, and Hon. John M. Tran for speaking at the 2013 Convention.
Golden Gavel Awards 2013
The Second Annual Golden Gavel Awards, hosted by the Fairfax Law Foundation's Society of Fellows, were held on September 11, 2013 to honor outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses whose noteworthy achievements and contributions to the Northern Virginia community are an inspiration.
FBA Annual Stitt Cup
Lawyers, judges, family and friends were invited to to Fairfax County Government Center to challenge each other to a round-robin volleyball tournament for the Annual Stitt Cup.
Investiture of Hon. Richard E. Gardiner
Hon. Richard E. Gardiner was formally sworn in as a new Fairfax County General District Court judge on Friday, June 28, 2013. Retired Judge Stanley P. Klein, Fairfax County Circuit Court, administered the oath. Judge Gardiner was elected by the Virginia General Assembly to fill one of two vacancies on the court.
Annual Law Day Weiner Roast 2013
The Annual Law Day Weiner Roast was once again held on May 1 at Weiner Spivey & Miller, PLC. There were musical performances by the GMU Jazz Ensemble, old fashion shoe shines, performers from the award-winning Boyle School of Dance, root beer floats, cotton candy, and a variety of hot dogs.
Legislative Update Breakfast and CLE Seminar
Members spent the morning with Senator J. Chapman "Chap" Petersen (District 34), Delegate David B. Albo (District 42), and Delegate Scott A. Surovell (District 44) on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Country Club of Fairfax, as they discuss recent legislative actions that affect the legal community and other relevant laws pending in the current legislative session.
Heroes v. Villains 5k - 4th Annual Run for Justice
The Annual Run for Justice 5k was held on April 7, 2013 at a new location in Fairfax Corner. The fastest to come across the finish line was Matt Roberson of Fairfax, VA with a time of 17:02. Full race results can be found here.
Annual Bench Bar Dinner Dance
The Annual Bench Bar Dinner Dance was held on March 2, 2013 at the Fairview Park Marriott. Guests enjoyed an open bar reception and wine tasting with Barrel Oak Winery, Kilaurwen, Potomac Point Vineyard and Winery and Willowcroft. Music and dancing was provided by the band Soul Expressions.
Judicial Retirement Luncheon
The Judicial Retirement Luncheon celebrated the notable and lengthy careers of three outstanding Fairfax County judges and revealed the judicial portrait unveilings for: The Honorable Leslie M. Alden (Retired) Fairfax County Circuit Court The Honorable Marcus D. Williams (Retired) Fairfax County Circuit Court The Honorable Stewart P. Davis (Retired) Fairfax County General District Court.
State of the Judiciary Luncheon 2012
The Annual State of the Judiciary Luncheon was held on November 28, 2012 at the Country Club of Fairfax. At the luncheon, the announcement of the Pro Bono Awards were made. Congrats to Deborah G. Matthews, Esq., of the Law Office of Deborah G. Matthews, for being named the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year, to Tonia Mauck, of Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, for being named the Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year, to Cole Miller PLLC for being named the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year, and to Samuel Jackson who received the James Keith Public Service Award.
Spring Golf Tournament 2012
The FBA's 12th Annual Spring Golf Tournament was held at the Westfields Golf Club on June 27, 2012. A silent auction benefited the Fairfax Law Foundation.
