Notice of Judicial Sscreening for Circuit Court Judgeship
The Fairfax Bar Association's Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for two or more anticipated vacancies on the Fairfax County Circuit Court bench.
As stated by Delegate Dave Albo, “Due to the Recession, there is no way for us to know if all available judicial vacancies will be filled. While there will be three open positions, it is likely that only two of them will be filled at this time. In short, there is no guarantee that the persons selected will become Judges. We want to be honest and forthcoming with all those who are considering seeking Circuit Court Judgeship.”
Please be advised that both the Rules of the Judicial Screening Committee and the Judicial Screening Application have been revised effective September 2013. Candidates seeking an interview with the FBA Judicial Screening Panel must read and comply with the Rules of the Judicial Screening Committee.
Applications (thirty-six copies), a photo, and a biography (not to exceed one hundred (100) words) must be returned to Jana Sehrer, Assistant Executive Director, Fairfax Bar Association, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Suite 216, Fairfax, VA 22030, by 4:00 PM, Monday, November 10, 2014.
Applications may be obtained from the Fairfax Bar Association office, via email, or downloaded from this link. For those members who choose to download the application, please provide contact information including name, telephone number, and email address to Jana Sehrer at (703) 246-2084, or e-mail her at email@example.com to receive notice of changes.
As stated in the FBA Judicial Screening Rules, "Absent a request from the Chairs of the Northern Virginia Legislative Delegation or the Governor, the results of this screening process shall be utilized for the current advertised vacancy(ies), as well as any anticipated and unanticipated vacancy(ies) on the same court occurring during the period beginning with the commencement of the legislative session during which the advertised vacancy(ies) will be filled and continuing until the commencement of the next legislative session.”
Please note: The Fairfax Bar Association interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2014 and Wednesday, November 19, 2014, depending on the number of applicants. The location has yet to be determined.
Interviews with the Northern Virginia Delegation are tentatively scheduled for mid-December.
