The FBA Judicial Screening Committee is charged with evaluating candidates seeking appointment to the Fairfax Circuit, General District, and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Courts. The nine committee members, recommended by the FBA Nominating Committee and elected by the FBA Board of Directors, serve three-year staggered terms, so each year three new members are appointed.

Notice of Judicial Screening for Fairfax Circuit Court Judgeship
The Fairfax Bar Association's Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for an anticipated vacancy on the Fairfax County Circuit Court bench.
As stated by Senator Chap Petersen, "Fairfax has been operating with one Circuit Court Judge seat vacant for years. With the retirement of Judge Schell, there will now be two seats vacant. Since we believe that at least one seat will be funded in 2017, we will be selecting one person as our pick to serve as a Circuit Court Judge in Fairfax. It would be hard to believe that the State would leave Fairfax two judges short, so we feel fairly confident that we can fill one of the two vacant seats. But since there are actually two seats open, the Delegation wants to make people aware that there may be a second pick. (Note: We have not cleared the following with the Delegation, but our expectation is that we probably will not announce who that second pick is, but we just want to make people aware that IF a situation arises where we need to pick two, they both will be selected from this group.)"
Please be advised that the Rules of the Judicial Screening Committee have been revised effective May 2016. Candidates seeking an interview with the FBA Judicial Screening Panel must read and comply with the Rules of the Judicial Screening Committee.
Applications (thirty-six copies), a photo, and a biography (not to exceed one hundred (100) words) must be returned to Jana Sehrer, Assistant Executive Director, Fairfax Bar Association, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Suite 216, Fairfax, VA 22030, by 4:00 PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2016.
Applications may be obtained from the Fairfax Bar Association office, via email, or downloaded from this link. For those members who choose to download the application, please provide contact information including name, telephone number, and email address to Jana Sehrer at (703) 246-2084, or email her at email@example.com to receive notice of changes.
