Description:  Litigates in the areas of land use, zoning, environmental, and local government law. Provides advice to the Board of Supervisors and county agencies, conducts legal research, prepares written legal opinions, and performs other general, civil, and administrative law duties.

Minimum Qualifications:  Must be an active member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar; four years of experience in the practice of civil law in the employ of a municipal or county government. Litigation experience.

Special Requirements:  The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of employer.

Note:  This position may be underfilled by an attorney with less than the required years of experience: Assistant County Attorney II (Grade L-02, $56,235 to $74,979), Assistant County Attorney III (Grade L-03, $63,270 to $84,361), or Assistant County Attorney IV (Grade L-04, $70,307 to $93,742). 

Note:  All positions allocated to the County Attorney series are under the Fairfax County Merit System of personnel administration and preclude the private practice of law. This position is limited to full-time employment, and may be underfilled, filled by lateral transfer, or by promotion.
