The Fairfax Law Foundation Makes a Difference in Fairfax County:
"It is the mission of the Fairfax Law Foundation to serve the community by providing legal and other assistance to the poor and those with special needs; implementing community education programs; and promoting the improvement of the justice system. The Foundation shall work with the Fairfax Bar Association in accomplishing this mission."
Established by the Fairfax Bar Association in 1982, the Fairfax Bar's charitable Foundation supports local programs to improve the community's access to justice and promote education regarding the legal system. The Foundation offers programs that allows members of our profession to "give back" and make a difference in our community:
A Difference for Students:
The Foundation funds programs offered by the Law Related Education Committee aimed at educating students in the Fairfax County Public Schools:
-
Court Tour Program This program offers more than 1,500 area middle school students the unique opportunity to observe trials, meet judges, clerks, and other members of the public service community. The tours also provide students an opportunity to meet with an offender in the Adult Detention Center to impress upon teens the advantages of staying on the outside looking in. These are great opportunities to reach students at a crucial age and instill in them a respect and an understanding of our judicial system.
-
Doctor/Lawyer Team Project This tag-team approach to the stark realities of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use begins with a doctor discussing medical implications of drug use on the body. Graphic slides are shown to create a lasting image of the physical repercussions of abuse. The lawyer's presentation emphasizes the drug and alcohol related convictions can have on an entire lifetime. The program is offered in area schools.
A Difference in Equal Access to Justice

Providing Informational Booklets Both Spanish and English booklets are printed to ensure all members of the community are aware of and understand the procedures and services offered by the Fairfax Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court.
How You Can Make A Difference:
The support from law firms, individual attorneys, families of attorneys and other legal professionals enables the Foundation to successfully sustain service to our community. Through continued donations of volunteer time, financial support, or a combination of both, our members help the Foundation enhance the legal profession in our own neighborhoods. The Fairfax Law Foundation has two fundraising campaigns - the Capital Campaign and the Dues Check-Off Campaign.
