  • GDC Memo: Updates on closings due to relocation of the Civil Division of the GDC in July can be found here.
  • General District Memo - Civil Division is moving, July 20-23, 2009: The Civil Division of the General District Court is moving back to its permanent home in Room 211 on the second floor of the Fairfax Courthouse from July 20-23, 2009. The civil counter will be closed and the phones not available on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (July 20-22). A drop box for filing documents will be established in the HR Department located in Room 210, next door to the new Civil Division office. Appeals and protective orders will also be directed to the HR Department during the civil move. The civil counter and phones will be operational again beginning at 8am on Thursday, July 23. Regular 9:30 am civil court sessions will be canceled all four days, Monday through Thursday, with only the 2 pm Foreclosure Docket continuing as scheduled on Thursday, July 23. Civil staff will call plaintiff’s attorneys to obtain new court dates for cases currently set for July 20 – 23, 2009. Plaintiff’s attorney will then need to notify the defendant or opposing counsel in writing, with a copy to the Court, of the new court date.   • Cafeteria Opening: An official date for the opening of the cafeteria has been set for July 22, 2009.  There will be advertisements about the opening posted in the near future.
  • Memo from the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court:  The J&DR Court has announced the revised 2009 schedule including its move to the new courthouse.  To read the order about the move to the new courthouse, use this link.

  • Be aware of a new scam targeting lawyers: The Michigan State Bar Association warns about a scam that is becoming increasing popular that involves trust accounts and has been popping up in other states.  The full article can be found here.
  • Channel 16 Tapes "History of the Fairfax County Courthouse":  The taping can be viewed Fridays at 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m., or Saturdays at 7:30 p.m on Channel 16.  Retired Chief Judge Jennings, Retired Commonwealth's Attorney Robert Horan, and John T. Hazel discuss the changes of the Fairfax County Courthouse over the years.  The program can also be watched on as a video on demand here

Court News

  • The Fairfax Juvenile Court in Association with the Friends of the Court will host the 9th Annual Golf Tournament to benefit at-risk youth on June 19.  For more information, click here or view the event brochure.
  • New Circuit Court Procedures: The updated pre-trial 10-day filing notice can be found here.
  • General District Court Traffic Felony Cases Memo: Even though they are assigned a traffic case number, all traffic cases charged as felonies are stored in the Criminal Division of the General District Court. Attorneys should go to the Criminal Clerk’s Office in Room 204 to file motions or review paperwork on traffic felony cases.
  • New J&DR Memo: There is a new Motion for Continuance Form for use in all J&DR Court criminal and traffic cases. The form should be used for all 3:00 pm criminal and traffic continuance motions. Copies of the form are available at this link or in Room 1305.
  • Memo from the Circuit Court about Pendente Lite Custody and Visitation Procedures - Goes into effect May 1, 2009.
  • General District Court Updates: Bond Motions Moving to 8:30 AM - Effective February 2, 2009, criminal Bond Motions in the Fairfax County General District Court will be heard daily at 8:30am in Courtroom 2G. Attorneys are reminded to notify Court Services in Room 203 at the time of filing if an interpreter other than Spanish will be needed at the motion hearing.

    General District Court - Civil: Use of NCR Forms: The Civil Division of the General District Court reminds attorneys that the use of NCR (carbonless) forms helps speed processing within their office by reducing the number of times the clerk has to sign paperwork, write docket numbers, etc. This is especially helpful on garnishments, where multiple copies must be submitted. NCR forms are available in the Clerk's Office.. 
  • New:  The Commissioner of Accounts has a website. The site contains resources, forms and general information.
