4:30 - 5:30 PM - Basic Overview of JDR Procedures

Panel Members: Judge Janine Saxe, Clerk of Court Barbara Moran, Joseph Dailey, Razan Fayez

Description: Civil: Filing New Cases, Status and Trial dates, Wednesday Motions, Emergency Motions and Show Cause Hearings. Criminal: Bond Motions (including DCSE cases), Attorney Advisement Days, Detention Reviews, trial and motion procedures.

Breakout A - Abuse and Neglect

Panel: Judge Glenn Clayton, Sameena Sabir, Matthew Yao, Christopher Sigler

Description: Statutory Timelines, ERO (Emergency Removal Orders)  vs. PPO (Preliminary Protective Orders), what is imminent threat to a child, what to know about Family Partnership Meetings (FPM), getting funding from the FAPT process.                                                                     

  

Breakout B - Protective Orders and Criminal Domestic Assault Cases

Panelists: Judge Thomas Mann, Jeff Overand, Jamie Hiles, Amy Jordan, Joseph Dailey

Description: Criminal and Domestic Violence Cases- If your client is involved in parallel Protective Order and Criminal Domestic Violence case? If you represent the Petitioner/Victim on a protective order, how best to work with the Commonwealth, or how to work with the Commonwealth and the Defense attorney if your client has hired you to represent his or her interests as a witness in domestic assault case. If you are representing the Respondent/Defendant, how one case may impact another, particularly if you are only involved in one of the cases, and working with Counsel representing the same client on the other case.

  

Breakout C - Child Support and Enforcement Procedures

Description: Bond Motions, Attorney’s fees, Reading a DCSE fiscal. Working with the DCSE workers, working out payment plans.

Description: When to ask for a GAL, when to use mediation, when to ask for attorney’s fees. Trial practice strategies: Getting jurisdiction right getting technology evidence admitted, How to use social media, texts and emails effectively, getting criminal records admitted
