Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program

Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, formerly known as Lawyers Helping Lawyers, is available to provide assistance, support for anyone in the legal profession, including law students who are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, burnout as well as those suffering with addiction or mental health disorders.

We are a voluntary organization and cannot report to the Bar of Board Examiners or Ethics. Any interaction is confidential, and stays that way. We can provide assessments, arrange treatment both in or outpatient if needed or just a referral to a therapist, psychiatrist or psychologist.

We provide support groups currently in Richmond, Charlottesville, Tidewater area and Southwest Virginia.

VJLAP is still here to serve the legal community in the midst of the pandemic. We have ongoing meetings throughout the state of Virginia via Zoom.  Our women’s support group meetings in Richmond and Alexandria have both gone to meeting weekly vs 2 times per month in light of the pandemic.

VJLAP offers a 24-hour confidential help line at 1-(877) 545-4682.

Please contact Barbara Madigan directly at (703) 206-8027 or email her at for additional information or support. Please visit our website or follow us on facebook or LinkedIn for additional information, blogs and support.

We are all in this together!
