Committees & Sections

Why Join an FBA Committee or Section?

Association members have the opportunity to participate in 10 working committees and a variety of sections. Committee membership is free for FBA members. Participating in a one of our programs is among the most rewarding and influential benefits of the Fairfax Bar Association.

Influence the direction of the FBA

One of the greatest benefits of joining a committee or section is the opportunity to have your voice heard when planning for the FBA's future. The FBA prides itself on being dedicated to its members, so of course we want members to actively shape the Association's growth. Involvement in a committee is the best way to promote change in any and all matters related to the FBA.

Network with colleagues with similar interests

Committee and section meetings provide excellent opportunities to meet and network with other lawyers. Members often develop relationships by participating in work groups. Members discuss topics ranging from basic practice tips to complex legal issues. Professionals with years of experience can work to mentor younger attorneys while members with different backgrounds swap stories.

Support our community

Committee members are key in developing our various annual events such as our Newly Admitted Attorney Orientation and the Back to School Drive hosted by our Paralegal Section. Members also have the opportunity to influence law-related education in our community by sponsoring programs in local schools and family friendly events.

Become a leader

Many committee and section members are recognized as leaders in the legal profession and the Fairfax community. Members are able to develop reputations as experts in their practice areas based on their knowledge and experience shared with the committee or section and larger Association. Members are also invited to publish articles in section newsletters and the FBA magazine, The Journal

Enhance your practice and grow professionally

One of the great things about committee and section involvement is that it benefits lawyers at all stages of their careers. We have programs young lawyers to improve their legal knowledge and stay current by reviewing case law and legislative updates in their practice areas. More experienced members may be interested in planning or speaking at a CLE seminar or developing practice tools. All members can grow and contribute to their committees simply by offering advice and listening to experiences from years in the profession.
