The FBA Judicial Screening Committee is charged with evaluating candidates seeking appointment to the Fairfax Circuit, General District, and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Courts. The nine committee members, recommended by the FBA Nominating Committee and elected by the FBA Board of Directors, serve three-year staggered terms, so each year three new members are appointed.
The FBA Judicial Screening Committee invites all judicial candidates to appear before our committee. Based upon a written application and interview candidates are eligible to receive one of the following ratings.

Notice of Judicial Screening for Anticipated Fairfax County Circuit Court Vacancy The Fairfax Bar Association (FBA) will organize a Judicial Screening Panel to conduct interviews of applicants for one (1) Fairfax County Circuit Court judicial vacancy. Candidates seeking an interview with the FBA Judicial Screening Panel must read and comply with the Rules of the Judicial Screening Committee (Updated May 2024). Please return the original signed and notarized application and thirty-six (36) hard copies of the completed application to Jana Sehrer, Assistant Executive Director, Fairfax Bar Association, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Suite 216, Fairfax, VA 22030, by 4:00 PM on Monday, November 3, 2025. Applicants must also email a photograph (preferably a JPEG), one (1) personal biography (not to exceed one-hundred (100) words), one (1) list of three (3) references with their contact information, and one (1) copy of the completed and notarized application to jsehrer@fairfaxbar.org by the application deadline. As stated in the FBA Judicial Screening Rules, "Absent a request from the Chairs of the Northern Virginia Legislative Delegation or the Governor, the results of this screening process shall be utilized for the current advertised vacancy(ies), as well as any anticipated and unanticipated vacancy(ies) on the same court occurring during the period beginning with the commencement of the legislative session during which the advertised vacancy(ies) will be filled and continuing until the commencement of the next legislative session."
